A Set For Sampo

Sampo Ryynanen made the final table of Unibet Open Malta in 2011 and finished third, leaving Tobias Peters and Mateusz Moolhuizen battling it out for the win. The latter ultimately took the event down, but he’s not making another run in Tallinn this week. Moolhuizen was knocked out on Day 1b but Ryynanen is still going strong on Day 2, as he just managed to take down a very nice pot.

We caught the action on the flop with the board showing :::Js:::5d:::4h when Ryynanen checked to his opponent, Armandas Sinkevicius, who bet 5,000. Ryynanen check-raised to 13,000 and after getting confirmation how much his opponent had behind he made the call.

On the turn the :::Ah popped up and Ryynanen bet another 13,000 and Sinkevicius quickly called. The river completed the board with the :::3c and Ryynanen confidently bet another 27,000. Sinkevicius made the call after about 10 seconds only to find out his Finnish opponent had flopped a set holding :::5c:::5h. Sinkevicius showed :::Ad:::Jh with frustration and he lost a decent chunk of chips.

Ryynanen is now among the chip leaders with about 180,000 chips.
