After a action filled second day of play we are down to just nine players! Pierre Almeida with 1,019,000 is in the lead, while former winner Unibet Open Malta winner Mateusz Moolhuizen is in the hunt for his second title. Moolhuizen comes back tomorrow 649,000 and that’s right in the middle of the pack. The final table will start tomorrow at 14:30 local time!
The day started with a huge chip lead for Michiel Brummelhuis, and the Dutchman kept it for many hours before forfeiting it late in the day. This was the start of his demise and he was ultimately knocked out in 18th place for €4,102. Almeida meanwhile was building his stack steadily and the Frenchman seemed very eager to win as he showed a lot of emotion throughout the day.
Belgian pro Laurens De Smet barely missed out on the 2011 Unibet Open Player of the Year award but he has already improved on his best result yet. De Smet cashed in three previous Unibet Open events, his best result coming in 14th in the Barcelona event in June of 2011. De Smet starts tomorrow with 346,000 which is one of the smaller stacks but he still has a good chance.
Three Polish players remain and they are all trying to follow in Jaroslaw Barglik’s footsteps. Barglik won the event in Paris last season and there’s a very good chance another Pole will take it down. When play resumes tomorrow there will be 17 minutes left in the 5,000/10,000 level with a 1,000 ante.
