With 502 entries across two starting days, the prize pool for the Unibet Open Bucharest Main Event has reached a massive €486,940. The winner will take home €90,925, along with the prestigious Unibet Open champion’s title and coveted trophy. There are now just 100 players left in contention – with the top 71 spots receiving at least €1,880.
Unibet Ambassadors Dara O’Kearney and David Lappin both made it through to Day 2, along with eSports Star Kevin “Papaplatte” Teller who bagged up 130,000 last night. Only one former Unibet Open Main Event champion survived Day 1 – two-time champion Dan Murariu who returned today 51,500.
The current chip leader is Dutch player Tom Vogelsang who won a massive pot against Ionut Mihaila to take the lead. Vogelsang, who has yet to cash on the tour, is now up to 475,000 after his pocket aces beat Mihaila’s TT. The overnight chip leader was Romania’s Marian Strachinescu with 345,000 while three other countrymen were also in top ten: Vladut Paun (326,500), the Day 1a chip leader Andrei Grimberg (325,500) and Tudor Bartha Laza (324,000). Tudor Purice started the day with 252,500, nearly two times the average.
The 10-year anniversary edition of the tour is taking place at the JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel in the heart of the Romanian capital. The five-day festival, the final stop of the 2017, got underway on Wednesday.
Unibet Poker ambassador Dara O’Kearney started Day 2 with 234,000
The overall field in the Main Event includes some 200 players who qualified online on www.unibet.co.uk/poker. They won full prize packages worth €2,000 which included their Main Event buy-in, hotel accommodation for four nights and €250 towards travel expenses.
The exciting schedule features 11 different tournaments. As well as the €1,000 + €100 Main Event, there’s also a two-day €2,000 + €200 High Roller plus several other side events including a €200 + €20 Turbo Bounty tournament, €100 + €10 Ladies Event and €300 + €20 NLH Deepstack.
