Losing the Wald

I found Dan Morgan Wald and Fabio Bianchi sticking around 3,000 each in the pot on the turn of a :::4d :::3d :::4s :::5c board. I didn’t get there in time to see who did the betting and who did the calling, but I can verify that it was Wald who bet out 6,000 on the :::7c river. To his chagrin, Bianchi snap-called.

“It’s yours,” sighed Wald, turning over :::Kd :::Qd for a busted flush draw. Bianchi revealed :::3c :::3s for the smallest full house, and is now up to around 30,000. Wald is down to a little under 15,000 – and to make things worse, Paul Valkenburg has just sat down at that table. Valkenburg is only an hour late today – a punctuality record for him, as far as we can tell.
