Dmitry Varlamov raised to 45,000 but Pierre Almeida soon made it 115,000 on the button. In the big blind, with a theatrical sigh, Zbigniew Wieczorek announced all in for 351,000. Varlamov seems to have been doing a lot of folding recently; this time was no different. Almeida was now left with a decision. The decision was so serious that he actually removed his hood – something we have not yet seen him do in this tournament. He dwelled up for several minutes, eventually putting his hood back up. Then he called.
Wieczorek: :::Jc :::Jh
Almeida: :::Qh :::9d
Board: :::8h :::Kc :::Tc :::As :::8s
Each card the dealer placed on the felt was accompanied by a volley of obscenities in French from Almeida – violating both the English-only and the no-swearing rules, although I guess they do kind of cancel each other out if no-one understands what’s being said. His hurled insults at the poker gods couldn’t help him though – he was left with 585,000 as Wieczorek doubled up to 750,000.
